This one-credit course is an in-depth examination of selected topics from the College Board Advanced Placement Biology curriculum from both content and pedagogical perspectives. Students in the course explore the theory and practice of biological concepts and procedures, develop and participate in methods of teaching topics, and create and discuss assessment of student knowledge. Connections between biology and real-world situations will be made. Teaching strategies will be presented to enhance student performance on the AP Biology Test. This first semester of the one-year biology course is designed to survey the biological sciences. This course is the first semester of Chemistry 1. Topics included are mathematics of chemistry, safety, laboratory procedures, elements-compounds-mixtures, atomic theory and structure, structure and organization of the periodic table, mole concept, chemical bonding, nomenclature, and chemical equations.
